Computers play an indispensable role in the medical field. Without them productivity and proficiency would decline markedly. Nearly every area of the medical field uses computers. Some of the areas in which computers are widely used are:
- In Medical Office: The complete bio-data as well as medical history of the patient is stored in computer. Not only patients detail but other information such as medicines, medical equipment, information about doctors and staff is maintained through computers. This helps in saving time as if the information is recorded in files it will take long time to search any information about the patient as millions of people come in the hospitals, and also save the space. Accounting is also computerized by which daily record for financial transactions are maintained.
- In Medical Procedures: They are very useful in the medical procedure. Apart from accounting, billing, various kinds of treatments are done with computers. Many high-tech surgical machines and instruments are equipped with small, yet powerful computer system to avoid complications and also to record and maintain the procedure.
Computers also help in laboratory test that are useful for diagnosis of disease. Reading of human internal organs with the help of X-rays and CT scan is also done by computers. They also act as life support system. A patient with critical conditions are put on special computerized system. It also helps to detect the changes in heart rate, pulse rate, blood pressure, breathing, and brain activities. This help to treat the patient as if any unbalancing situation take place in the body of the patient, computer activates the alarming device, which create sound and alerts the doctors and the staff. - In Medical Research: Various kind of research studies are carried out by them. Studying cells, bacteria, microorganisms, etc., have become easier with the smart invention of computer. As we know, across the world many scientists are conducting research studies and are collecting information.This information can be mutually shared by the medical fraternity with the help of computers and internet technology.
